My Hero Academia 299 review of the reading.
So folks I finally read My Hero Academia 299( some people just don't know how to read it at a certain time or another) and let me just say that it does confirm some suspicions of mine about the actual world of heroes in the story and really much where the story is going. Okay, the best thing I can say is that the story did get dark and really much a new status quo has occurred. It seems like many heroes have become discouraged to become heroes. I think it some way goes to show that a heart of a hero has to be earned and not shown.
From what we have seen so far. People have to go to a school to learn to be heroes and that does not mean they know how to be heroes off the bat from having abilities. No, it does not mean that at all. It means that many heroes really are just people who else without the direction and guidance of heroism would not be heroes at all. They are just doing it for the fame and the affection and when the big deal rolls around; they are out. It seems that many heroes are disenchanted from being heroes as their motives weren't all that ideal. This one large event comes around and they are done; because they realize they have failed.
Spoilers ahead; the current story.
The current story is one which Hawks' backstory is examined. The story is pretty much dark. Hawks' father was a criminal and his mother was a person who planned his escape. The thing is that his mother is very despondent and his father is very abusive. Hawks' mother basically has some type of quirk where eyes float around her. Its never actually given what her quirk does but it can be said some type of perception or sensory type of quirk that would allow for early detection abilities or allow a criminal to get away or aid them. Basically the story says that Hawks was a child born to two criminals who were working together. Hawks grows up looking towards heroes but is tossed around everytime his father comes back home because he is watching a show/news report about them and for the fact that his father is a bad person. Eventually his father gets caught trying to steal a car and was caught by Endeavor. This is the reason that Hawks looks up to Endeavor because he saved him in a way from his father's abuse.
However, Hawks and his mother end up on the street and really much it is because his mother really cannot fed for himself. It is implied that Hawk's mother urged him to steal for her sake. In another panel, men in black suits come and take Hawks away saying that he and his mother will now have to change their names. Ultimately; it does not say who the men in black are or how exactly Hawks got into heroing but let's say-its not explained.
This part of the story was a flashback and Hawks wakes up next to Best Jeanist who is driving a car down somewhere. Bean Jeanist refers that he did not know if Hawks was still with him because of the extensive healthcare work needed to save his life and refers that he has been kept alive by the same advancements. He relates himself to mismatch pattern jeans. This part surprised me as I thought Best Jeanist had been killed by Hawks to earn the trust of the Liberation group. I am to say that really I thought Hawks was going to die in the first part of the arc where they cracked down on the Liberation Front( I think that is what it is called). But nope, he lived to tell the tale.
Anyways they enter a town overrun by criminals and liberation type folks and really; this is the scene where the people explain the situation and a former hero is implied in the background hiding his quirk. As if he did not have what it took to continue to be a hero. Bean Jeanist makes a note of this. The story basically ends at this note.
