RWBY and the grand disappointment.
The following is the author of MK MZODERN's review of RWBY; an animated show free on Youtube up to the 5th volume. The article does not explain all the particulars of the characters and really just for people who watch the show or have watched the show or will first watch the show and then read this or read this and then watch the show and then read this again. It notes how RWBY was okay for the first three volumes but after the next three was not so great.
I watched RWBY in fall 2015 and it was very different aiming for a story and design goals that are not silly or cut and paste like other brands of stories. Namely Cartoon Network would benefit if it did not care a bunch of stupid shows that really just communicate how tired the creators are of their jobs.
Yet I say that RWBY in its first two volumes I saw in the fall 2015 and the rest later on in fall 2015 and spring 2016 of the third volume where some of the best animation and story I had seen to that point. I say that the ending of the third volume was a different change in pace that was completely by surprise. People expected the come back to be great and still have the same elements as before. Sadly the show just goes straight up depressing after the third volume. Seemingly to be striving for collected elements on paper that cannot work out because the people are trying to live up to expectations they cannot possibly fill. Trying to continue the story; the action is low quality in terms of its happenstance and its ability to have a stable quality. The speaking parts to move along the story are solely depressing and if not kinda of cringe worthy because all these "happy times" don't live up to killing off two characters. If a person is to be truly honest; the fifth volume was a flop in all the terms of what it could have been. RWBY excelled in doing action without full exposition and used limited speaking terms to justify actions. The further versions of RWBY in the fifth version mainly; just tries to say that this past style was a mistake and something to be improved with useless dialog and filler aspects of a story that is going somewhere. Which really takes away from the actually exposition of the characters not saying much and to say the increased depth of characters is done in a way that is sloppy and poor quality and frankly does not match to the characters as presented before. Noticeably; the whole idealisms of whatever could be said is depth into the backgrounds of different characters of the main cast can be said to be really lacking in compelling the interest to all the many colorful characters who won't have a backstory or focus on a storyline that pushes them to be discovering their sexuality as the fifth and sixth volumes do to Blake and Yang through various plot devices. I say that people did not come for such an education and mainly; people are still begging to know anything if Penny-the robot killed in the 3rd volume is even going to make a come back.? Its taking too long to even figure out certain plot points and just some things to shock you after three years don't shock you after three years and the handling of the story is very poor I will say. Having to wait to volume 7 to even hope to find out if the robot killed in the 3rd volume will even revive is a push for many people. I relate that it is like waiting for the Avengers Endgame to see what happens for not one year but potential three or four years! There are many story lines in RWBY since the third volume that seem to not be ever to be answered. Will we ever see all the Huntsmen again from the tournament? Is there some sort of price for Cinder becoming the fall maiden? What happened to the teachers from Beacon? There are so many lose ties that after the sixth volume people call it quits.
RWBY is a very ambitious project folks-after the third volume which was written by the creator Monty Oum~ the creator died in a particular medical mishap in which he died from an allergic reaction. The show basically lost its unique edge and creative heart and yes; they continue it because the creator had written down all the ideas. Yet I will say that while people can try their best to a story right-some will say that the creators do far too much an injustice to the original story. A very unique path the original creator wanted and inspired to and I am just going to say-people are just taking the easy way out. The fights aren't fun and the comedy aspects and lighthearted aspects are just cringeworthy. All the songs are namely sad and the show ceases a guaranteed musical number. I don't say any disrespect to all the people who work on the show and do it because of the original creator but for fans watching there is a severe disinterest in watching a show that is redeemingly to different from the first three volumes in the particulars the fight scenes are sloppy especially at the end of volume 5 and the story does not flow as music. The story before in third volume flowed in a way that was magical by the fourth volume; it was just a bunch of bunky exposition people expect of another show that is terrible and trying to be something and failing miserable at it. Like making up a story that seems to make sense but is really tedious and only because of three volumes before do people watch hoping there is an answer in the wind of what they would like to see a continuation of the original story and its feels but that will not happen. The story by the fourth volume goes into a route that is considerably one that is a different story all together than what people who liked the previous knew and loved. All to say that people-some people who liked the third volumes can tend to like sloppy action and bad exposition of speaking and doing via the characters. To say the rest of the story is like a newcomer walking in a previous well worn owner's shoes and does not know how to walk in them and lacks the real confidence to say do the things that would have made the fourth and 5th and 6th volumes something that people would have liked to have seen who valued the third volumes solely. It comes to a time that after three years people aren't interested in what a story no longer even offers answers to the third volume and carrying on a narrative in the best means of possibility to merit its doing a great job when people truly are still waiting for elements that made the ending of the third volume special and expect to continue. Should people be made to assume that the robot Penny is dead forever when robots can come back from the dead? This is what the show is expecting you to do.
To review the fourth volume covers Yang's recovery of using her arm and focuses on her and Ruby father who gets to bang two of his team mates and have children from them. I find that interesting but the show to keep itself reared does not leave a lengthy plot hole and this subject has been the main focus since the third volume; rather of the team Ruby and Yang's father was on with their Uncle Qrow. Yet while it never goes into the story; it does not ignore it exists in the future volumes and especially fourth by introducing the father called Ty-goes into developing that storyline. It would be to say that the development of the background of the characters has merit indeed. In the fourth volume we learn more about Jean, Nora, Ren and even Uncle Qrow. Ruby suffers from nightmares of Pryrah being killed. ( I apologize if the names are misspelled). They basically this team of Jean, Nora, Ren and Ruby face an endearing opening that classifies Jean as a good leader and certains that the death of Pryrah is remembered of course. Yet to say it goes onto a slog of remembrance of the ills of the world. From bandits, to a grim called the Knucklegreeve(also mispelled) which is certainly central to Nora and Ren as it decimated the village they lived in or rather both of their villages in which Nora was an orphan coming to Ren's village when the attack happened. While I say the fourth offers the adventure of these youths-the adventure has long been tailed by Uncle Qrow and he is able to save Ruby from a new villain;a faunus with a scorpion tail called Tryion. Due To Ruby Qrow is injured and they only figure this out in the forest after the gang gets angry at him for following them and revealing his "unlucky charms" semblance. However Qrow gets sicks from the poison in Tryrion's tail and now they must rush to find him help. This only leads to the team splitting up to find a faster route. Nora and Ren encounter the Knucklegreeves cave. Everyone gets back together with the injured Qrow and must do battle with scary and dangerous Knucklegreeve. The battle for one in this season is exciting and reminding of fights in the past volume. The gang defeats Knucklegreeve and they are picked up by a flighter of sorts and Qrow is saved of course-they finally make it to their destination. Ruby writes to Yang of course they made it yet; troubles await our heroes. In other side notes-the story of Blake involves Sun following her back to the estate all much of faunus live in harmony and the White Fang is a great organization here with a deceptive head. The opening of Blake and Sun's story begins with her and him fighting a sea grim that threatens the ship they are on. The story is kinda of boring revolving Blake and Sun and really introduces her parents and Corsick and Finik( also mispelled as I don't have time to look up the proper names of everything) the leaders of the White Fang in this region and no they don't acknowledge Adam is actually with them but a separate violent ring of their organization that went off on its own. I say that I don't remember the rest of the happenings with Blake and Sun but it involves the chameleon faunus Lydia who is working for Corsick and Finik and attempts to target/spy on Blake of course all in part to discredit Blake and her family being central to the merits that Corsick and Finik are just as violent as Adam...something along those lines but you know that storyline was kinda of regrettable. Sun is injured battling Lydia and guess what Blake comforts him and they realize a new level of frienship in which Sun wants to be there for Blake's problems and not shunned away. We can guess that they are somewhat a non engaged couple and really the story is poor at defining what they even are at this point. Yang of course passes her father's training and motivation and we see her go off on a motorcycle. Some could say that just maybe the story could have been paced differently. Oh, but I am forgetting Weiss~ her family is fucked up-her father is controlling and only wants for her to sing at a gaudy benefit for the fall of Beacon. We reach this artist dude who speaks to Wiess who triggers her by his entitlement. Weiss starts a fight with a rich pompous woman who is an obvious gold digger and her father gets angry at her for dealing the truth. Really underlies the entire thing must as well be fake to all these rich people and guess what- Weiss is basically punished for being human and her father takes away her right to become the next heir. Giving it to her fucked up manipulative brother and really her father refuses to let her live or leave her room and just wants to control her life. Weiss with the help of the only human there-the butler escapes and likely to say that is were the story leaves off. I am just going to say somethings could have been done in an episode okay. Or a least a bit better. But for all the blessings for people who are dying to see the continuation of the story all this seems good. Just wait till you get to next volume. I completely missed the part about Ozpin/ Oscar and really watch the show for that and its kinda of revealing of the villain who becomes central to the fifth volume ending and that he somewhat has a human heart but very construed in the loss of a love one who was a huntress.
The fifth volume I will summarize without going into detail was a mess. It seemed to open right with the deception setting of the headmaster of that Mistral academy that I don't remember its name being apparent to viewers who watched till the end of the fourth. The ending of the fourth was underwhelming just a bit and not in anywhere level to the previous stories or volumes heightened endings. I say to you; the fifth volume went off the rails and crashed. We spend too much time in the characters communicating and there is no real action; least you are Yang and Weiss or Blake. Even to be said the action of Yang and Weiss could have been constructed better. The action and story just dragging as if afraid to truly wrap things together in a way that flows. There were many new characters this season who only served one purpose-to get beaten up or to die. The so called Spring Maiden was just stolen too of her abilities by Yang's mom and apart of that team where Yang and Ruby's father Ty not only knocked her up but Ruby's mother too and Qrow is basically just a cool drunk on the side.I reserve that while attention is on Ty. Yang's Mother and Qrow's team some aspects of the story are just interesting to say the least and people have questions that are answered in the slowest manner possible. Most important the former Spring Maiden in the horrendous finale; that ditches the lyrical fighting scenes for static and chaos noises and seems only to redeem itself by the apparent offing of Cinder-the bitch so bad and bold-the Spring Maiden is revealed to have her powers taken by Yang's mother which we can assume by their speeches. I say that the most annoying thing is that series is just kind of disheartening by this point when the Rwby team mostly reunites and everyone has a dinner together and its so fun and happy and I really for the heck of it in this series where the main venturing cast of Rwby, Jean, Nora and Ren seem to just be on the back burner and just dealing with Oscar and Ozpin as a some type of antagonist in the most silly way possible..." you better not lie to us baka even though you are more knowledgeable than us and died once protecting what we ultimately on't have any sympathy to expect is your role". I am just going to say that really the character don't seem that likeable this volume and if one word classifies them with tons of talking time; annoying. Geez and Jesus. Somehow after episodes of Ruby and cast delaying the eventually outcome of them being there to get the relic after the school they are at seems to be on the blitz~ I say they finally go to retrieve the relic after realizing they cannot trust the huntsman headmaster of the academy. It becomes this lazy fight and ideally involves the White Fang to a great number of degree.
The fight is a mess. Weiss almost dies and Jaune/ spelled Jean previously here finds he can heal her. The villains in this show are dumb fucks and so stupid and their reasoning does not match much anything okay. Yet here comes big bad villain from yester season and blames Oscar for the death of his sister as when he was Ozpin. I am going to say that the fighting was horrendous and dragged on too much and rather that the fight for Blake and her folks to just survive the White Fang was also sloppy but better than the bullshit that was that fight. Folks I watched that fight and wondered what show I was watching. It was not genuine to the styles of the first three volumes and just done in poor taste. The worst fighting I have ever seen. So out of pace; did people get tried by this time from the previous fight. Anyways; the season ends with the retrieval of the relic after Raven-Yang's mother dealts Cinder a slap to the face she never saw coming. People assume she is dead but friends just you wait. The relic retrieval comes with some petty lango of mother and daughter that I have had even with my our parents folks and people don't want to watch that shit. Yang gets the relic and that is the end of the season opening a sum of worms that could have been a good ending if the production team did not sully its interests in revering to include the aspects that Lydia is so in love with Blake and yes; this opens further discussions by the show if Blake is a woman liker or woman to be liked by Yang. Yes.
Up to that point of this series-all RWBY could be found on Youtube. The three good volumes and the two iffy ones that seem to give a needy continuation and half assed answers. I say that after the sixth volume because Rooster Teeth that owns RWBY gots its own streaming platform; all the episodes are found on their site because no one wants to give money to Youtube or be paid by Youtube when they could be a Youtube just for them. I don't know about you but I don't have money to invest in a new streaming service and namely don't like all of Rooster Teeth's shows to even watch their stuff. Where did I watch the next volume on other sites not Youtube because greed gets the deed am I right? I am right.
The sixth volume was better in its opening. The story was very dark. We learn of a great evil that is Salem that Ozpin hooked with when brought back to life by his former lover never to die and be born again until he defeats Salem who wants the four relics to remake humanity in her image. The story is pretty dark before Ozpin is brought back, Salem goes mad and then evil and then tries to bring the nations of the world against the two gods mentioned in Qrow's origin story in the fourth volume. The gods kill everyone and their dust floats down making the dust their ancestors-Ruby and everyone in that time uses. Its sad to say that everyone in this previous world had magical abilities from the gods and really become the basis for others to have powers in the future against the grim created by Salem who is cursed to never die least she learns life is valuable. Plot hole friends; it don't seem she is going to learn that lesson cause she creates worse grim by the end of this season. Not to say anything else of ingenious trends; after this friends she falls into a pit of black from the God of destructions' domain and becomes a dark centered pale woman who Ozpin when he comes back bangs her four times creating the first maidens. You assume they are all dead by the time the fight between Ozpin and Salem ends with Ozpin dying again and Salem really not knowing the worth of life. Ozpin fights over and over again and sometimes does badly and surely we reach the true incarnation he is called Ozpin and yet younger asking the relic retrieved the volume before; now a fucking djinn/genie is there a way to defeat Salem and the answer my friends is "no". The team of privileged brats goes off the charts and blames Oz for this and that which never makes him a villain just because he lied about something these brats could else not be intrusted with out right. Imagine if the series started with this premise. I am sure to say that some people might have traitored instead of pushing bees onto a girl in all probability of happenstance.I say that this part was really terrible and the characters you don't like since last season are even more entitled brats. Not to name we meet an old lady who is a former reaper type huntress who Qrow and Ruby model their weapons after. Her story is terrible and she loses her sight and now assisted by virtual eyes. They go to a village and really; everyone has died because of Grim who take the will to live away from people so they don't get out of bed to feed theirselves nor do anything to save theirselves. You can run but only if fast enough before the effects hit you. I say that these creatures so straight up bullshit creations and maybe in personal taste and from seeing other series one of the most lame and stupid innumerable creatures that people have to fight. Okay we go to having cherry episodes to just nearly dying in a frozen waste land where the main characters suddenly become suicidal, overtly judging and Qrow is no longer a safe cool drunk but a destructive one. I say I was sickened we go from taking down Roman Torchwick to fighting creatures who make you nearly harm or kill yourself by their ability to make you cease caring about life long enough for them to kill you. very dark and very out of place for a story that had many magical musical numbers. What music we got by this time -none and just a creepy horror story in its place. We finally reach the coast town to Atlas and the relieving characters of comedy aren't even that funny. Have this whole mecha versus a Grim large as Godzilla in the sea saga for what becomes the ending of the volume. Ruby learns to use her eyes of course from the Reaper lady that inspired her weapon who also had the same eyes that allows the freezing of grim to kill them. Sadly folks; we get some team up between Blake and Yang and they kill off the stalker Adam who literally appears out of nowhere. They kill him together and maybe this signifies they are now a couple and hurrah to that plot line of getting them together and yet we don't know if Penny survived cause she is a robot. A god damned robot! If what is worse is the mecha is damaged and the whole town is at risk because of the gang and only its right that Ruby defeats the beast or helps to when the old woman piloting thing helps greatly defeat the grim. He head to Atlas to secure the relic from the fifth volume and by this time what of the current plot devices? Will we see all the relics? All the maidens? And some how a solution to the plothole that is the characters waiting in oblivion over an over powered enemy by spiteful gods and hoping a solution is to go back to the place Weiss was so loved and the people are not full of shit? Oh and wait there is more; Cinder is back and teaming up with Neo-we get to see the nasty underbelly of things and maybe just a spider themed woman who is fat is a bad ideal and kind of does not match with the characters in this show?
I am saying that some things in this volume were a bit unnecessary. Anyways after pointless exposition of Cinder and her helpers like the first volumes people hope would not be repeated-they go and do it and now they have some over arching plan and just wait hopely we get some explanation about Cinder to really make the story make some fucking sense. Its like Cinder is the actual main character with hidden exploits to get back even after how hard she was slapped by Raven the last volume. I say it is somewhat sickening to be bothered by Cinder and her pal Neo who is angry Roman Torchwick is dead and kinda of living off of scraps and carrying his tattered hat in tattered clothes who kinda of close off a story point missing but really-Cinder at this point is completely pointless when Salem is obviously the big bad but is she? We shall find out whenever the fuck Cinder outsmarts people in Atlas and Ruby fights her and her certain past and involvement with Salem arrives. Could she have been from a timeline where Pryrah did not die and was just another student on the edge and cast into the reality by a relic in her world which namely probably serves a similar or different aspect? I am just to say that Cinder represents a curve ball the creators will throw at you that is as poorly done as the fight scene in the ending of the fifth volume leading to Cinder's total bitch slapping. Something that was to be prominent but by the authors now; a thing of annoyance and a path continued to be a shocker that has a great importance to the story. I will say that its pretty likely Cinder is to find another ability to comparison of Ruby's sliver eyes due to the fact of how she became the fall Maiden and if not to say probably already is experiencing it with the grim arm she has. Probably if Salem is creating new grim in her tendency to topple humanity in a rage to reconstruct it as she sees fit-Cinder is probably just a creation that will be the high form of the grim and even using the master of the grim as her plow to power-maybe making Salem realize humanity in the end and we completely avoid having to look for relics or the maidens and the series ends?
Just to say that people could relatively come up with multiple endings on how the series ends in how stagnated attempts to story are and how things would add up to each other to make a shocking exploit as the end of the third volume. I am saying the show is just going in a dark direction by the sixth volume and some people would rather if they go back to musicals like the previous volumes in the first to the third. I say I was to be a one to say no and no to the show many times this series. Very scary things that just seem out of a horror movie and terrible main characters who have a terrible character that does not merit them heroes even.
Whatever to say the next volumes is probably not going to be any better despite the attempts to close the Penny arc and Weiss' father arc and all the things about Atlas the series could have the time for. I am going to say I watch this series over everytime around this time of the year but really out of concern for the most recent volume; I think I will just only shorten watching the first three volumes because the rest of the time you are just waiting for things to happen that maybe might happen and should happen if you are to follow a constructed story as the original author intended but with a better pace and class that people would not mind some answers not being answered for a period of time but the rest of the volumes just miss a magic that made the series important and by the sixth completely lose it and just really you are just watching it out of consideration of the first three volumes. I argue that RWBY would actually be two series put together. The first three volumes make a type of story that is draggingly alluded to in the next three and yes friends-all that drama and lazy action and high action out of the lazy action is not all that fun. To me the story is kinda of these days a disappointment as well as the fact of how the Rwby is not available on Youtube to its most recent placing. And I'd assume if the series is to continue to maybe volumes after 8 or 9- people honestly might get tried of all the things lost in transition. People should honestly aim to make RWBY better because now its a dissappointment.
