The worst documentary on comics and their movies.
The rise of superheroes
Missing important entries like the 2005's superman.
Watchmen is out of order in importance.
Does get superman vs Batman Bad!
Suddenly introduce sequels of movies.
People in this movie never recognize time and status quo changes and reality past their views. No audience consensus.
The later bit of the movie is a slog and has a bad comprehensive pace for a documentary, just shoving things in and thinks the audience is stupid to not notice actual realities of the 2010s. Nothing ever happened like that.
People honestly think the point of comics is pleasing people.
Never appreciate the real stock comics have.
Things being geared to children is bad. Insult children and comics by calling them childish. Apparently also everything needs to be done to the best of mainstream recognition or it does not matter. No efforts put of love.
Most importantly because of the previous crutch never accurately address clearly or accurately yet even effectively why comics became more mainstream.
Never gives a good grace to the actual continuity of comics by rather so paperthin there is little context to be found. Only so much to found an understanding that comics aren't mainstream where in fact they were aka. the many cartoons of the past as in the 1990s. Discounts the importance of these cartoons for being introductory to later audiences.
Teenage mutant ninja turtles should be considered both a comic book that was a cartoon in the 90s which movies were made out of then. Various movies were made in the 200s and 2010s. Tmnt are considered heroes in their own right yet the documentary never mentions them because they never come from the two large companies. This is contradictory to the notion of success that should only have been merited to DC comics movies in the 1990s and as well contradictory to the notion of what pop culture saw as successful at a time. Many people who saw the 1990s tmnt, probably were invested to go and see the 2010s movies because it was a big part of their childhood. Equally the success of the 2000s X Men movie franchise just has to do with people who were introduced to bit as a kid and it became a fond memory. Yea, this documentary ignores all of that and any who could have been interested.
The spawn movie is not mentioned where the crow movie is.
The non English woman ruins the movie as an academic source with her opinions. Who is she even and why is she an expert on comics or movies made about them.
Cgi is posed as a godsend to movies where any expert will tell you that they were poorly utilized even at those time periods they were used.
Every time can not be phrased as modern and have any impact to what the word means. Good suggestions for raising using common sense are-so the past then, the past of, was modern then, contemporary of the time and of the then current timeperiod. Who wrote this script?
Deadly Class author is living proof that subcultures of rock music interest and those who liked comics existed as one many times if not people could be apart if two subcultures at once. The movie steps all over that to preserve the pop culture notion that comics are for nerds.
Never does the movie actual recognize that pop culture has not existed as long as the comic book medium and that nerd branding is only a relatively new invention from the 1980s and 1990s and nothing more. So it's out of place and time context when used to define the past where no culture existed. Almost as if to appease the mass audiences who believe that comics are for nerds to drive home the narrative of comics becoming accepted by pop culture rather than explaining how they got popular.
The movie does not but serve as an advertisement for dc comics and marvel comics especially with the opinion pieces of blonde non Brit. A pr piece with hidden messages that comic book movies only mattered because they got " public pop culture" appeal and really misses the real happenstances. Suddenly the mystery to why spider man 3 and x men 3 failed is not apparently when many reviewers and YouTube's by 2019 have underlined the failures. Just ultimately tries to rewrite things in a way which blames actual comic fans and not pop culture/ social media chumps and just writes comics as having, " not grown" despite successes in movies and tv. Many will agree the success in the movies promoted more diversity efforts leading to miles Morales as spiderman. The fact is the introduction of this fact would contradict a biased image of comics being nothing more than bad, unpopular and only fodder for a list actors and movies. Most importantly pivots away from the good qualities of DC animated movies, tv shows and shorts which are better than Marvels offerings. Does not attempt to show that Marvel is just another company with pluses and cons but rather something to be revered. Yes, dc comics is something to be revered as well but much less. Seemingly to keep a status quo in mind. Choose marvel and comic books are still just for " nerds". The movie is a waste.
The Aquaman movie and Shazam impact are never touched on. The justice league is not even mentioned. We only learn of these happenings from the opinion of non English blonde lady!
If anyone has knowledge of comics, they are bad people and really are comic book readers. Those who are gullible through movies to know fact from fiction are the saints. Major reason why comic book fans and comics are depicted as money losers at the end of the work.
Tries to prove the worth of comics only in what they can inspire in " being for the mainstream" whilst putting them down as junk not worth of the populace.
Talks too much about the importance of women behind the wonder woman movie before the black panther movie. White feminism bias.
