The antagonists' but you get 5% in IP.

Now, folks if you ever are negotiating whether or not you should lend your artistic services to a person trying to start up a company that cannot draw theirselves and has very specific needs-realize that a 5% stake in the IP is trash. Just realize that they own 95% and you are basically bringing the work to life through very specific and tedious details. I don't know about you but this is how people get fucking scammed out of their time. You should ask yourself as in many of these cases, these folks are looking for a "replacement"; why did the previous artist even leave? Maybe in this case and in other cases they are just not being treated well. Many times forced to redraw things to the specific likings of one individual who simply sees them as a means to an end. I know what this person is thinking; the other person says I am disrespecting them and does not feel the need to stay on so I will give them a 5% interest in the intellectual property. The person already is showing a red flag here they are not the most gracious individual to be working with. If anything people who are to be your concurrent artists and you are not really a full fledged company yet and they are having to take a risk to do anything simply realize they should get a 50% stake in the intellectual property. Its only fair. A person may have to just devote all their time to this project to get it just "right".

Yet hello, when a person is just thrown 5% stake in IP to sweeten the ideal-its really just a pity. Such a shame that if this project hits it large they will only get 5% of what money is made plus whatever amount was agreed to by both parties and let's just say would you want 5% of  $100, 000? Would you want $500 dollars which is just one extra gig and maybe less depending on what you are paid when the other guy gets up to $100,000 minus the $500? I think not. They need you more than you need them. If anyone is to draw anything to such details and the poster having such descriptions as, " Must be comfortable and proficient in drawing black and ebony features(hair, nose, ect). Must be proficient in drawing gore, destruction, battle damage and detailed backgrounds". Like holy hell, all of this is very specific and detailed backgrounds take time, what does the writer think comic book artists are? Pop Tarts? Just pop one in the toaster and when one is done put the other one in?

Oft to say in the Connecting Comics and Writers group I have seen so many of these acts come and go and really what comes down to it is how the people treat each other. You really cannot flourish when one person is to gain more than the other. One gets around $100, 000 and the other gets $500 and that is after one person's art makes the comic a comic and gets it to where it has to be going. Honestly, I think that some people should recognize that comic book artists are people and yea, you kinda are holding poverty over their heads with gigs like this for your company you are so sure to succeed and not by the grace of the artist but this partnership that is all for the writer in the end. Just so someone can complete their dream off the backs of others without giving consideration to the fact that they are human beings and maybe what your company pays them is not enough for them to continue working for you and yea neither is  5% stake in IP. Let us be real here, even if the person finds an artist, that person has goals and dreams theirselves and the ambitions of this person does not represent those ideas and eventually because they are not treated as an actual partner; no one will find any commitment that staying there will help them complete their goals and ideas.

" I'm your partner yet the future movie right belong 95% to me!"

"so great partner, you are an asshole".

The message folks? The message is what? Never ever, ever, ever partner with people who put 5% IP rights as some incentive. That is just means they recognize people are going to leave but want to pay them pennies to keep them around. Yet I would not be spreading bad will to the people behind the effort or anything like that; this is just for creators to watch their backs and many younger yet older people don't know this stuff. But seriously, legally you can really just be screwed over if you agreed to a 5% stake in Intellectual Property. You will only get $500 dollars for which work you made succeed to an amount of $100,000.
