Bad: Dump the Idhun Chronicles.
Enter Idhun Chronicles.
The worst anime I have ever watched under Netflix. Its basically this spanish anime based off a spanish comic book. It has a terrible premise. One day supposed main character which I never learned his name, his parents are killed by 2 hit men because they are mistakened for magicians. He gets taken to a secret world between worlds and really just becomes a pacified character of the impulsive male main character. He now must aid a resistance to take back Idhun back from a "Necromancer".
The story I bid you before getting into details is just rushed and really a waste of time. Don't bother to read it. The work never builds on characters and just gives small events to build the characters which does not work out in reality of course. In the span of what takes 5 seasons to do; the series wastes in one and really few episodes. It refuses to build up any story or any character. There is no world to explore. It bothers trying to develop characters just to kill them, turn them into a wolf creature and really much just waste the potential of the whole idea.
Many opportunities to introduce characters that define a number of worlds as this story tries to establish at least three world include the namesake world of Idhun which I add the characters never venture into albeit you only see through flash backs. I think it would be better called the Middle Passage Chronicles but that is offensive but not as offensive as this world.
I mean the story is stupid. One plot line is where there is a traitor and really much the writers just don't know how to make an interesting trade off. No, they got to drag it out in the bizarre way and suddenly introduce an element of the world that makes no sense. I mean what the fuck is the point of turning a character into a manwolf in the first place? On top of that there is a cheetah woman who welcomes the character in his cell," welcome to our tribe". Yet she is the only person there, offers few fucking words and then is killed. Its basically an empty story. I mean there should have been a bunch of people all transformed if they are going to say to the captured character,"welcome to our tribe". There is no thought and basically the writer resolves never to explore the world or engage with new characters. In fact kills 1/2 of the main characters there and introduces utterly two useless characters to the story at the point, the "Necromancer" and this councillor lady at a school. The story starts with 4 good guys and then is halved into two. The story starts with 2 bad guys and ends with one bad guy primarily.
The story drags on too long and that is the warning at the start. There is no grabbing to the attention or building of the resistance. Only destruction of it to the point the main character girl is saying," the resistance is over". They build up the meaning of friendship and relationships where and when in 5 episodes there is nothing to show for it. They could have kept these episodes and I mean like fuck that man-animal whole thing completely-it was completely to derail any center this story had.
It did such a terrible means of storytelling and world developing that really the titular world Idhun is so under developed. They keep on introducing new classes of inhabitants but never show how anyone there lives. The work is just horrendous in this regard. What is a "blue cone head guy even called here?" is what you can be said to ask. I mean the creatures from Idhun are done such a disservice. Basically looked upon from a very colonist viewpoint and especially the traitor has the least motives of betrayal for anything as we hardly know the traitor but he just is a device to move along the story and one you are supposed to hate just bluntly. The thing is that you aren't going to hate this character because he has not been explained at all.
The characters keep needing to explain theirselves and do things that are inappropriate for the sake of "reasoning and logic". Go on and train for five minutes to face the baddie and see if it makes the difference. Strangely, training for five minutes which is illogical can make anyone a master at a new tool because they have the "chosen touch". They waste valuable time in which the author wastes no time turning the captured member into a werewolf for no fucking reason at all. Like, this is not how you tell a story.
All of a sudden especially after a bunch of episodes where no shit happens, it just gets violent and really much you cannot attack this 15 year old hitman at all and not even to save your freaking "friend" even. The show takes a thing that characters are able to resolve early in many shows and stories and makes a mountain out of it that is so freaking disastrous. I mean, who wrote this anime.
I frankly sat there and gave this thing a chance but it just fell apart like a broken story and instead of the author fixing it or even giving a real main character( as the work has none and never really establishes one but says the guy with the dead parents is the hero and main character) they decided to end it as if that is a solution. The show is basically like a form of destructive artwork and really is meant not to be an anime but just a bad work that degrades in value over time. I mean the first few minutes of the show where the parents are killed is just so odd and characterless that really enough-why should we care? Especially about useless characters and (ahem) the most main cast who come to save the main character and "failed" to save his parents. The story tries to take some immature notion of realism to heart when it is trying so hard not to be like other stories that work for a reason. The work just sucks. It postures far too much.
There is no depth, the story is all over the place and really nothing happens in any episode that goes to a direction of telling a story.
I mean I expected better but the spanish in my opinion really aren't the most well adapt persons to write an anime off a book adaption. Certain self importance, ethnocentrism and such values of downplaying a "fictional" good time just to be faux-realistic or what a government or group of people consider to be real( a thing that many bad storytelling cultures do or ones that were once influenced by a dictatorship of some form) are found in this work. Do not watch this shit. Please, it wasted my time.
