Comics of the Philipines.
How much does an American audience even know about the Philippines? Not much unless they know of someone from the Philippines or are from there. I think that many people really could not register much about the country else but whatever they see on the news. For those who watch that "Family Chantel" show, let's say at one point where the oldest brother gets married to a woman from the Philippines, it largely appears that when the family comes over they behave in a very disrespectful and uncourteous. Such to say folks, I open your eyes to the fact that its not okay to be ignorant and leaning into stereotypes especially when you are black or anything like it or just in general. Being ignorant does not pay off. America is not the only country in the world with people in it and you must learn to respect people and their cultures and not think that immediately you are better than them when you knowing about them. Some countries have bad and outdated behaviors that obviously aren't productive or even inclusive but yet even in those cultures-not everyone is bad. I am to bring all of this up because the Philippines is the furthest from what most Americans can register at all. To even know of people and their culture you must first be open to learning about them and their culture. You should not think that American comics are better than the past Philippines comics when in fact; American comics in the past and even to these days are aided by artists from the Philippines and yet many of these people never get to create their own storylines.
Going into the next post about a certain comic from the Philippines, all of this will be great to reference back. I believe there has been no greater wrong that the complete ruin of the comic industry in the Philippines. People usually only know the Philippines as a place to outsource to complete their animations for cheap and its a shame because simply all the talent is taken advantage of and never stays in the country. To be said; the following is something of a tragedy of western self importance degrading an eastern culture.
