Tapas not for the people.

How did Tapas fail the people? How did the sites of Line Webtoon and Tapastic turn into just Webtoon and Tapas?  It is because they wanted to appeal to more people. Simple this is to say that they just want to appeal and keep on appeal to the demographic who would read a boy's love work and really stayed geared to a sheer focus on these sorts of endeavors which distances and pushes away all people who are older, straight and tending to write things that are about action and do not include anything lgbt. Truly, whilst these places had tons of lgbt people at the start, they were not everything the site was about. But for the money these sites specializing in webcomics in the Korean style basically just capitalize on young women and women who like boys love type materials and catering to the lgbt money-I mean, community. In the end these sites were consumed by lust for money and using a budding presence of LGBT content and the desires of young women and few men to fund their sites going forward even if older fans felt left out that they were not LGBT to participate in being popular and/or being featured on any of these sites. Many people did not like this grift even older LGBT fans and even if they were featured on the site, alas realize these places don't treat them well enough to continue their comics. Yet as interest in LGBT content in comic form still present its need; these sites take good use of all the people pouring in and putting effort to be "included" and maybe make some money off their comics. But yet for people who are straight and just create works that are of action and not of this need are of no use to Tapas or Webtoon.

This is to say that Tapas is more than likely the place in which is more veering to utilizing the stream of  LGBT comic creators to be their cash cow. A person can say these sites of Tapas and Webtoon are basically sites that are what? Social media sites, and yes some wise person on the matter of social media once said, " that if they aren't selling anything, you are the product". That's right, these sites sell nothing really albeit for maybe Webtoon today has anime series for its Korean national creators who works you could find amongst the manga on the manga sites. Yet both of these companies, social media comic book companies have what? They have a class that is rewarded. Not everyone can make money on Tapas or Webtoon. You have to be a certain type of person. Yes, a very certain type of person; a person that matches with their branding and a person who has to be the natural enemy of those who they brand their sites to.

Tapas and Webtoon are not for people who are straight. The majority of the comics that make any money on their site have a LGBT focus. If anyone has a focus outside this great "marketing opportunity" they will never be featured and solemnly much of the audience on the site will not read the work that is put out.  You see the rise of korean comics being noticed by those who read manga in the western side of the world and just other places in general led possibly to Tapastic and Line Webtoon crunching the numbers and just thinking on how they could make the money from their users. That is to pretend that ultimately all straight people are bad and all their works are bad and that everyone just needs to read Killing and Stalking and be a young adolescent naive young woman and just push efforts to get these people interested into their sites by pushing the newly popular BL works. The time really started to be up in in 2016 and especially in 2017 when Killing and Stalking became popular. You should know this work is a work that is known and advertised well by those who were introduced to korean comics post 2016 and possibly the only one you can find on youtube and peaks the social consciousness of the mainstream. A whole South Korean wave into Western entertainment begun with Killing and Stalking and yes people who previously read korean comics and adjustedly as they listed to anime music and theme songs listened to boy bands from South Korea. Its pretty funny that I back then supported the rise of South Korean entertainment in the west because literally diversity is important and it would in my opinion back then create better cultural diversity uet-there was a side effect of gaining BTS, awareness of south korean comics but only from a BL perspective and  these comic book social media companies cashing in on this rise. Suddenly, if you are black and male and not a later teenager whose gay and just so able to be alongside the rise of this wave as if you knew nothing else before-you were not to be needed. I speak on black people because any depiction you find on either site of Webtoon and Tapas literally is just some overtly sexualized bullshit and/or the person is always gay. As if to say, "diversity is having one black person amongst all the other people who are gay".

You would wish the South Korean would get more recognized but not realize the real life matter that koreans aren't the most endearing people in civil rights. Their women are treated basically still like sex objects for companies that go on and on about women empowerment and lesbian rights and their stories.  What for diversity? Korean society is very racist. They hate people who are even dark and just favor white skin. There is your diversity for you. This is to be said that these companies of Webtoon and Tapas are just grifters. They have nothing to actually be about "LGBT" and diversity when its just a marketing ploy so they can advance and develop stronger their companies. The rise of BTS is what they needed to grow and foster some stronghold or attempt to reach western audiences. Target the influx of young women who would be spiraled into the South Korean media world. I am to say that their LGBT push was built on the sum of LGBT creators on the site before but with BL works and GL works( girls love works) they could trick people that LGBT were feverently welcomed on these sites. However, its nice to notice that in the societies of Japan and Korea, BL and Gl works are just fantasy things and more of a cultural interest into these type of homosexual encounters. This does not mean that homosexual relations are even accepted in the real societies. No, it means they are just fiction works which means they cannot really be "expected" to be reality. The places of Japan and South Korea are still very anti-LGBT places. Though most people would not know that but if you are young and impressionable and have the secret interest in seeing same sex sexual works and/or apart of the LGBT community-you could be reeled in on the promise that these sites are safe spaces. But no; not everyone person who is gay and creates a comic can succeed. No, you have to get in line and kiss the sympathies of what these companies are looking for. What are they looking for. The quote before, " If you aren't buying anything, you are the product". They are looking for a champion err product! This is how we get into people who literally make lots of money off Webtoon and Tapas.

I think enough that the name Tapas is stupid and made by people who went too much in their lunch breaks to drink some shit they never will appreciate and just a bunch of women and men pounding on tables drunkedly, "how can we make ourselves main stream!". Welp folks, you in luck-I already thought you how they made theirselves main stream but well once they got the marketing effort down of attracting BTS fans and just more LGBT folks to displace the few remaining straight folks who held any power; they had to show people they were mainstream. Which is continually present theirselves as these heralds of change and diversity but mostly allies to LGBT folk and those that liked South Korean Medias if not the now prominent Killing and Stalking! They had to convince people that they were "appreciated" or that a person like them was "making it big" on their platform. They more than ever funneled money towards certain users. Those gay enough to have a following at the point of mid 2017 going forward. I mean that as not an insult but really that is what they were looking for. You see on Tapas you could buy ink to support creators at one point to the present day and this would support the creators and Tapas would pay them. On webtoon, if you got enough views, they would pay you and if you got featured-then you would be working for them. Nice, right? However, what is missing from everything? Yes, not everyone is gay and likes BTS and all Korean media.  Utterly many people found theirselves  disenfranchised. The great opportunity these sites possessed was no longer for them.

I am to say that they could never be the champions but the enemies in the story presented. And well for the champions, those featured and followed enough to get paid even-would it be enough for them? Well not at first. On Tapas, some people complained rather many people complained in 2019, they  could not survive off the ink given to them but really later on and today these people are doing well for theirselves. Having multiple series on the sites, massive followings on twitter, patreons rushed with support and just be able to do comics in general with no money qualms if they kept a "healthy schedule".However many of these people have what? LGBT focuses and really much not one straight person is ever chosen to be a carrier of wealth because its not profitable for Tapas and its branding. They don't want to distance theirselves from the LGBT crowd and thus money. But just endear that straight people are toxic redhaired white bearded men and ultimately hate "progress" or are against "political correct stuff". Just so that people who are LGBT feel more than welcomed on these sites to create comics and just not support anyone who is not behind the LGBT movement as in being apart of it. Really; there is not one comic I can find today that posts well or even enough if they are some straight person with a straight story and real action going on. And really if you are older than 25 the whole site just does not throw money behind you if you just start out. It seems to hate the older generation to where people who once posted freely have stopped posting and/or removed their accounts.

On the Webtoons side of things, the favoritism lines in the champion not being LGBT but being Korean. The God of Highschool and the Tower of God all are series that were created before the whole Korean media rise around 2015 and maybe even earlier. Yet Webtoons being more popular than Tapas and now more retentive in keeping a diverse user base felt the need to cash in on potential anime adaptations. These things; adaptions of these works in which people read on Kissmanga and pirate sites and never the then Line Webtoon would gain a massive following because for at least 5 years people had been waiting to see these works animated!  I mean, I have memories of people wishing these works to be animated when I read them in the past in 2015. They could capitalize on hype and a large swatch of people who wanted the works to be animated as in those who had been waiting since 2015 for the adaptations and those in 2020 who would be impressed webtoon had such adaptations. Yet these efforts were likely successful in bringing more people into the site as users but will Webtoon just make any comic on their site an anime? No, they would not. I would be lying if they choose these works on just numbers alone. Both of the creators/teams on these comics are actually South Korean. They are not from the United States or anywhere else. Its important to realize Webtoon is a South Korean company. Truly, you think a bunch of closed minded people who hate most of the people of the world because they aren't white are just going to pick some LGBT creator or black individual? You'd be wrong. Much of those who are even those who make money off of Webtoon literally are worked like dogs to put out new content and well that be a South Korean management thing because they really have a grave problem over there respecting comic creators. In a separate non social media company, people are doing what most of the time? They are being worked to death and paid little. The reality is that the champions of this site and Tapas only exist to prove to the users the site is good for them to use or of use to them to use and just to support these ideas and the companies' bottom lines.

This being said, I never would use Line Webtoon from the start-it seemed too suspect for me but I liked Tapastic before it was called Tapas. I had a comic account called 2bityecomics. Yes, I posted there and I had been posting on the site since 2014 since its very beginnings to the time period where its called Tapas. The person I even read the first comic from on that site does not even post anymore and has not for many years. Way back in 2015 when there was still some chance of people being recognized. But yet the company was just starting back then and he was featured but yet could not become the champion of the site because he simply refused to invest anymore time into the site because of "creative difficulties". I am to tell you that I have seen many stories and accounts just go and go into oblivion or just stopped posting. Tapas was not doing well in motivating those it would highlight to continue making comics. Nope, it just let them go by the wayside because they could not possibly afford to pay them with the magic that was of the South Korean comic expansion that occured in 2015/2016 and then the BTS and South Korean entertainment wave. Honestly, let me just tell you something- I felt welcomed on that site. I got lots of views for the first Cosmica, well I kinda of imported them in from facebook through different places when you could do things like that and people would be there and accepting.  Twobityecomics was formed in the summer and really it was promising with different stories but really at the end of the day no one wanted the works I had in store. They just wanted things to smoothe and soothe the LGBT consciousness. Slowly, I began to feel very pushed to the fringes. I was not the most popular account but I was making views and I was gaining traction but that all ended when the rebrand to Tapas came in 2018 I think. Suddenly if you were not gay and into the Korean stuff, you could not win and really much-it was no longer alright to be you. Its ironic right? For people to be told they could be theirselves and others told in great disappearing opportunities of relevancy (where  anyone but those who are theirselves outcasted giving a damn about your work) that they could not be theirselves. I mean, a person can abide by the idea others have a right to live their lives in the manner they want but  really a person is not gay and honestly does not care about the whole gay lifestyle-that is not what they are even about. I am to tell you folks, it took me a great deal of time to get over the fact that Tapastic was dead. But in fall 2019, they removed the whole embed feature where you could put the comic on your site and really much that was the end of things. I last posted Mysterious and Changer 2017's draft on the site but that got literally no views at all and really much-only the LGBT, BL and GL stuff was making it.

I once loved reading the different comics on the site but seeing how only certain people would get views just changed my views on things and just seeing someone who had been there since 2015 continue their comic and struggle to do so as the landscape had changed to where they were no longer the champion of the site and really just a yesterday featured artist forgotten by this site in its zeal to chase the money behind a social movement and a korean cultural advancement, I was done! I broke me how the promising place that was Tapastic was just a place using teens and younger adults and then tossing them when they got too old. I am to tell you, that many people who were featured in 2015 and before were never featured again and the site really did not give a fuck about them, LGBT even. They weren't just the "demographic" to adhere to BTS and be these young near teenage folks. That is people were just being surely outed for being old. It was just a place stringing people on and making them pumped for a future prosperity that would never come just to move onto the next group of people to capitalize and do the same. Many people have uncompleted comics on Tapas and many will never come back and yes, the cycle will continue and continue just so Tapas can exist and make a buck, that is why I don't give a fuck about the place today and its truly how they fail people-the creators!

Also they try to heavily censor things so they appear on Apple and Google's stores as an app, so there is that as the last nail to why I don't use the site and how they have failed everyone really. Of  course if they really live up to the golden standard of social justice, inclusivity and giving every user a fair chance, well they don't. Even to this day they somehow avoid any event which would be geared to celebrating black people. I wonder why, but utterly the site is not for the people. But just for Tapas relevance.

Its a lesson to learn that greed to be socially relevant and in the mainstream attention span just makes you a phony that does anything and everything to keep people like livestock sheep to later shear and then gather another face as society changes to shear more sheep. Sheep who don't come away from the site with any learned skills, connections, continued stories and most importantly fulfillment behind their dreams in completing a comic and making a living off of it. Many people will never make a buck on Tapas and/or Webtoon because these sites have abandoned them and will only but use them to stay relevant and prove to the world like many artists feel the need to; that art is relevant and endearing in society. But these sites just want to be mainstream relevant and that is all. Nothing more. They lost their real soul in the process. From being completely ambiguous in motive to becoming so recognizable in a motive that many people flee them with complete abandon. Yea, mark my works for their "need to be censored" parts, I don't care anymore and surely many people won't care after the South Korean cultural influence wave runs down from what it is today.
