why the internet is dangerous to the individual spirit. (in progress)
The social media aspects of the internet are dangerous to the individual spirit because of many things like online bullying, harassment, hindrance of freedom of speech and because of the natures of social media to try to manipulate and program people to be addicted to the platform seeking things that often cannot be sought in the service. For instance; no matter the number of likes you give someone else or friend someone-it poses a " fake reality" where you believe you matter just to give likes on a social media platform or belief your friends online are your friends in real life, that will never be so.
People often deprive theirselves of seeking real life friendships and happiness and even their true selves for the sake of the magic of the " fake reality" of the social media network which is really built to be conditioning of people to expect a response for an action and desensitized from the true worth of actions and merits. Thus, people don't see the merit in making real life friends when they can have an imaginary confidence in an online friend who really is not their friend. This aspect shows how social media desensitizes individuals and promotes online bullying, harassment and freedom of speech being lessened by various parties who excel for a reason of being desensitized to normal everyday aspects and do want to manipulate people because they run the social media service. People cannot be themselves when in the fringe of addiction and manipulation and hindered by other parties in the given social media landscape.
How social media can be dangerous to the individual foremost in how much hate speech one person can garner for an opinion or solely being theirselves on the internet. There are constant feuds on the internet as well over different opinions and views and certainly some to be said are related greatly to the realm of politics and views that are always not good for many people. Relatively; people can face discrimination on the internet from people who have beliefs that are racist and hating of people. There are many arguments across facebook, twitter and other social media places today even though due to a past of where people would basically spend much of time arguing back and forth tried to restrict the words that could be said by individuals and those individuals who could speak or comment at all. People despite community guidelines trying to make for a better commentary environment- still argue all the time on the internet and what can be said is the harm in all of this is that individuals waste so much time arguing. Next aside of this; usually in the present and the past-conversations of arguments can lead into virtual harassment and cyberbullying. Wherein messages are sent to different individuals in their direct mail, dm as it is commonly called or chat feature that are not good but hateful messages. What people are usually not made to expect is that the censorship of certain people by social media estates is just a means of freedom of speech censorship especially when it is people's right to vocalize an opinion and simply social media estates often use the ability to censor hate speech to label wrongly people and content that is not hate speech from off the platforms. This betrayal of trust is often exemplified in betrayals of trust like how facebook was revealed to played an important part in granting russian agents the ability to influence the populace on the internet and their vote in the 2016 election. And as well how facebook basically sublet people's private information to 3rd parties. Showing that while hate speech is something terrible and should be prohibited-social media giants are no better and even worse than anyone who an individual can argue with or be harrassed by on the internet. And that rather use the issue of hate speech to allow a loop hole for them to classify people as hate speech vitors to censor the freedom of speech and herd people to a certain objective of their own or others of the same controlling of endgoal objectives.
Social media can be limiting of the freedom of speech. That means certain views of individuals are hindered. Simply because they do not abide to the standards of how people of color would "certainly view something or believe in something"-some and much minority views are hindered by the claims of outsiders simple knowledge of stereotypes to govern what is right and what is wrong. Usually the people behind social media are not friendly to freedom of speech and are known to target people of color and their real views. With facebook in the whole russian manipulation scandal allowed basically Russians to pose as if civil rights advocates to sway the vote or manipulate black individuals with fake news and misinformation. Which caused many real black civil rights activists and advocates to consider whether they should do anything of continuing to support using facebook in how it allowed many bad intentioned people to portray their movement as a simple means of manipulation of black people. And yet a conflict of interest to support a social media giant that did not censor the Russian agents but would jump at many opportunities in the same time period to hinder black civil rights activists and their pages under "community guidelines ". Such acts speak boldly of betrayal and many people besides black activists were forced to consider how much control facebook did have over them and their lives and their freedom of speech. Forced many people realized that the level of authority facebook asserted violated their freedom of speech. Yet, this is one large aspect of modern social media-the hindrance of the freedom of speech and herding to the objectives of people to be mere stereotypes. How would ever people expecting to get onto the internet be able to be theirselves and be able to speak at all be able to do so by the advent Big Brother eyes of facebook that judges their character on innate stereotypes? The answer is that you simply cannot be yourself on the internet.
Why does not being yourself on the internet pose a problem. You become desentized to your true rights and purpose just to fit into something that is packaged for you like a drug to become addicted to. Many social media experts like Jarron Lanier say that social media is built like a drug or to be addictive by conditioning people to expect rewards for doing certain activities like liking a post or a tweet that really does not do anything for the person. But hold them at the peril of expecting social interaction and validation from liking a post or a tweet or posting even. Why this can be so bad is that people come to expect they will get some great feedback if they repeat these expectations of rewards for a tweet, post, like or reblog. And become addicted to the social media service to be always posting and wasting their time. This can all but be a not great thing at all. People will subsequently waste their time and become more aggressive, moody or depressed based on who they are due to their social media use. Rather the stimulus of the "reward" is not enough and people go looking for something to fill that void constantly and constantly to get a response or a heightened one. Such antics can be seen in celebrities, youtubers, paid gamers and even the current president. Jarron Lanier says that even President Trump is tied up in the addiction factor of social media. Often posting many things just to get an approval and never considering the true merits of why to post at all or the content that will be used to garner responses. This speaks true concerning on how factually and morally incorrect and in the moment Trump's tweets are. Simply he is engaged to be forever in a stream of self appreciation by the reward of likes and views that his message is getting out there often losing sight of whatever the message truly is. Often this means simply that you really lose sight of right and wrong for the sake of views and if at all it can become very harmful to other people and maybe perhaps an entire country.
People becoming desensitized to right and wrong by the social media's addictive nature to reach validation by any means basically ends up in individuals even becoming hostile to others and promoting content just to sate their hunger to be liked or popular. The addiction to social media creates many individuals who go onto become cyberbullies, online stalkers and people who are always eager to fight with people they don't agree with. And as well individuals who claim an innocence due to appealing to a toxic populace appear thus. A popular youtuber called Pewdiepie often posted jokes about Jews that were racist and never apologized for a long time that his followers very vindicated in believing these racist ideals about Jews. Many of his followers of course were children who were subjected to the belief in racist ideas about Jews so that when they grew up they became racists. Such that when this youtuber grew past his need to make racist jokes to appeal to an audience who would else be innocent towards knowing how bad these jokes were or people who did know; his audience lashed out at him for ever trying to apologize and make right. Rather he himself redrew the money he was going to give to an organization for Jews realizing he had raised a mob. A mob of people who were so learnt in the gospel he shared they could never let go of the principal as if a god they were ever quick to believe in at the sake of their true selves and potential to not be racists just to fit in with an online community. These people if you can imagine; these followers of Pewdiepie are often people who argue against colored people, LGBT rights, democrats and democratic values. Wishing for how they see everything to be the law of the land. Solely this is all a fake sense of reality vested in a "fake reality". People in real life could never go around making racist jokes about Jews and not be held accountable. Just because this particular community exists on the internet under the radar of what would be censored by social media giants-it seems like their racism is vindicated at least to them when in reality outside the internet it is not. Yet; social media giants are good at censoring people who really just want to get their message out there and promoting individuals who are just saying and doing things for attention that are often brainless and harmful to many people even theirselves. This is all really much to support the dependence of people on social media as a drug to allow them to invest more attention and more of what can be said an addiction investment in the service. Why Pewdiepie is not censored from the internet along with his followers is simply because it makes a good profit for social media to have rich addicted individuals( like youtubers) to support its addictive nature and not true freedom of speech nor morals. People in believing social media is for them when they represent freedom of speech for the sake it of it and real issues often become discouraged or desensitized by how social media supports basic nonsense and the ambitions of the frequently desperate for view folks more than it will ever support them and give up. Becoming convinced their matters of their self don't matter.
Jarron Lanier says that depression is one great side affect of social media found in teens and adults, mainly teens and that social media in its downs affects everyone differently, depression is but a side affect of cyberbullying, the system of conditioning with rewards and how lacking the constant system of rewards wears on the merits of self worth. Many people who are depressed even by social media will continue to use it even though it does nothing good for them because they expect some sort of validation for posting content, a tweet, liking posts or rebloging/sharing things as if it will make them feel better. This behavior shows that really social media is dangerous to the individual spirit because it promotes namely harmful folks in the position of power whether they be misinformed and spread misinformation, whether they be full of hate speech , spam or just attempt to control elections in a very manipulative manner and will hardly promote the rights of people, their right to fair election scene, civil rights, freedom of speech, and justice for when they are wrong.
In short the social media systems of the internet are dangerous to the individual person because they expect you to be but a drug addict, don't support your human rights in various freedom of speech manners and political ones as well, support discrimination of you under the premise of making the site safe from hate speech and misidentifying you and causing you to become desensitized from wrong of all the above by social media giants to not care much about anything as you can use various social media platforms. If all to be said social media dismisses the emphasis of the everyday persons in fake emphasis of trust they are likely to believe in order to manipulate the everyday persons and support the best people that promote the drug addict hook of social media with youtubers, twitter accounts and facebook pages that do anything usually not right for attention. Things that never support that a person has a conscious but concession to a hunger of views. Such that social media diminishes the self of people into a tool for it to just use and grow and flourish not making the world a better place. Not caring about the rights of users namely freedom of speech, civil rights and political freedoms and their mental health even.Fostering racists, bad presidents and even foreign interests out to control the democratic process more so than it ever will fostered the self of many individuals and people. Its pretty clear that social media is dangerous to the individual spirit and people being able to live as their own people without constant poisonous validation.
