Arana;the Heart of the Spider featured Anya Corazon-who became a "Hunter" in a corporation with a mystic bent. In the days of 2005 and leading onward was somewhat a diverse character with maybe a potential future as a main character in the Marvel stories. Somewhat popular enough to be featured in a couple of storylines but namely to say~ by the very end of the era of the Arana series where she debuted-the art quality dropped and the story was just plain terrible. Like as if Marvel did not want to invest in keeping the characters centered around her there as she was a minor character or the fact they were all but minority characters minus the computer guy. Banished all her friends and community and any importance they had just so she later in years could be dashed around the Marvel universe and the cool element of her exoskeleton being removed and she in time just became apart of "Marvel's Grand Diversity Scheme". Another Spider Girl. Not Arana as she was called. Another fucking Spider Girl to say that Spider-Girls can be diverse. Not to be ill important~ but in the time from 2015 to 2019~the character has lost any of their importance they started with. The very purpose of Arana's creation was to represent a diverse hero with a different type of setting and different type of villains. Hence many people would never know this but Arana is one of the many characters who was sown in a collective piece that featured could be new heroes to Marvel in 2005. Namely to say that Marvel never makes room for its characters to be their own persons if they are created newly least they be an X- Men or lucky to be in space. If they are on Earth they have to be some type of legacy character. A legacy Hulk, a legacy Iron Man(woman),a legacy Spider-Man(girl never boy-oddly), Legacy Ms. Marvel and maybe even more in the form of a legacy Wolverine. To say that all their characters if new eventually lose originality and become the new mantle of Spider-Girl or Hulk or Ms.Marvel. To say without naming names~white characters are replaced by Mexican, Asian, and Middle Eastern individuals. Then Marvel can say they are hip and civil even when they are not.
Of the three characters I have listed overtaking mantles or fitting into them; two were characters that existed in the 2000s around 2004 up to era where Marvel sought to diversify.

Yet some would say if they had diverse characters before what is wrong? What is wrong is that when they sought to diversify~they stripped them of everything that made them important or unique and fitted them into their main roster of most popular heroes skins. Arana is one of these characters. No longer called Arana, no longer with exoskeleton nor any remnant with the magic society; Arana is the most fucked up character because seemingly she was plucked out of her world and then turned into someone else ever slowly over time. With many of the new characters that have a title; diversity in style and rendering of art is key.  They have their own style that only applies to them and no one else.

Namely; Arana did have her own style and yes~ to say stripping away all that was presented in the original story to make her a "Spider-Girl" or make her appeal to a "diverse population" heavily contradicts her modern representation to do the same exact thing! What does it say; has society truly changed from 2005 to 2019? Maybe it has but not enough for a publisher to relinquish its attempt at being diverse in the past is sorely limited in scope in comparison by the attempt it does today. Surrounded by well used characters Arana is; but yet just a reject who has lost their own character and yet is a secondary character to be tossed and killed off when Marvel realizes, " what to do with this character that was our diversity golden boy". When the fad of diversity wears off at Marvel what will happen to Arana? Will she stay Spider Girl forever?Most likely answer is that they will realize certain limits based on history and work to build up the character and then ditch the character in a numerous amount of ways. But what is most disgusting and sad is that all the characters in the original are ditched and tossed. So much hostility to Mexican men they get straight up killed suddenly namely like Arana's father- a detective and her former protector with any great importance but move her closer to being a secondary character. Removing her best friend and the surrounding elements of the region she was in first for places more close to your favorite logo heroes. Such to say; the element of diversity is one that is not nice to comic book characters of actual races. What is most a striking change is the name to Spider Girl because maybe it would sell better. But for many people who read the original books over and over again at their library~its sad to see how badly treated Arana is as just some diversity character when she was that ten or 14 years rather ago. And how little her story has developed to be anything but an explicit failure to relapse under a new identity of diversity that is not sane and not moral as the first cause was.


Why the character is fucked up is because Marvel could do better but refuses to just so she fits in the current scene of innocence yet diversity cause at Marvel. And all the potential she would have had if she was a manga character as the original style was like~ is frankly gone and still to say her story seems to barely even begin to even "be" without any changes or change up to the original and source of her powers nor who is around her.
