Day 11: The Submerged Library

Image Reference: A grand library sunken beneath a crystal-clear lake. The shelves are still intact, covered in coral and bioluminescent sea life. A diver drifts between the bookshelves, reaching for an ancient tome that glows faintly. Shafts of light penetrate the water, casting ethereal patterns on the walls.

Technical Process:

  1. Underwater Light Physics – I use diffused, shifting light rays to capture the natural movement of water filtering sunlight.
  2. Weightlessness & Flow – The diver’s body language follows the gentle drift of water, with their hair and clothing moving in a slow, trailing motion.
  3. Texture of Decay & Growth – I emphasize the contrast between the smooth, ruined architecture and the organic coral that has overtaken it.
  4. Depth Perception – A gradient blur is applied to the background to create the illusion of deeper, murkier water in the distance.

Connection to My Life:
The idea of knowledge lost beneath the waves reminds me of the ruins of Baaj. How much of Spira’s past is buried under water? How much of my own past is hidden from me? This comic is about discovery, about what remains when time swallows everything else.

Day 12: Whispering Canopy

Image Reference: A high-up view of an enormous rainforest canopy, where tiny wooden walkways connect treetop homes. Wind rustles the leaves, sending soft golden particles drifting into the air. A lone traveler rests on a branch, looking down at the vastness below.

Technical Process:

  1. Overhead Perspective – The forest floor is distant and blurred, creating a sense of height and slight vertigo.
  2. Motion in a Still Image – The wind is suggested through the movement of loose leaves and the traveler’s cloak billowing slightly.
  3. Subtle Bioluminescence – The golden particles in the air provide a dreamlike atmosphere, glowing softly against the deep greens.
  4. Contrast Between Scale & Solitude – The traveler is small compared to the vast treetops, reinforcing themes of solitude and perspective.

Connection to My Life:
Standing at the edge of Bevelle, looking down at the impossible city below, I felt this same vastness. The way the world stretches beyond what we can see. I wanted this comic to capture that feeling—that humbling moment of realizing how small we are in the grand design.

Day 13: The Lagoon’s Lullaby

Image Reference: A glowing blue lagoon at night, surrounded by floating lanterns. In the center, a woman stands waist-deep in the water, singing. The ripples from her song create luminous patterns that extend outward like ancient script. Shadows of unknown creatures move beneath the surface.

Technical Process:

  1. Symbolism in Ripples – The patterns in the water are not just waves, but messages, echoing outward like an ancient language.
  2. Hidden Depths – The creatures beneath the surface are only suggested through faint, distorted shapes, creating a sense of unease.
  3. Lantern Glow & Contrast – The warm orange light from the lanterns contrasts with the cool blues of the water, making the singer appear almost ethereal.
  4. Stillness vs. Movement – The water is calm except for the singer’s ripples, making her presence the focal point of the page.

Connection to My Life:
The Hymn of the Fayth always had power beyond words. Singing was never just singing—it was a connection, a force that reached beyond the physical. This comic is about that resonance, about sound shaping the unseen.

Day 14: The Forgotten Grove

Image Reference: A ruined temple deep in the jungle, overtaken by roots and vines. Stone statues of warriors sit in meditative poses, their faces cracked and weathered. A single statue remains untouched, its eyes faintly glowing.

Technical Process:

  1. Nature Reclaiming Man – The trees and vines grow through the temple ruins, not just over them, showing how time has consumed civilization.
  2. Lighting for Mystery – Sunlight barely filters through, creating beams that highlight specific areas while keeping others in shadow.
  3. Symbolism of the Untouched Statue – The glowing-eyed figure stands out as an anomaly, hinting at something beyond natural decay.
  4. Balance of Detail & Focus – The overgrowth is detailed, but the statue’s glow directs attention instantly.

Connection to My Life:
Seeing the ruins of Zanarkand for the first time, I felt the weight of forgotten battles, of history swallowed by nature. This comic is about what remains—what refuses to be erased.

Day 15: Echoes in the Ferns

Image Reference: A narrow forest trail where shadows of past travelers flicker between the trees. They are translucent, barely visible, caught in an endless loop of old movements. A present-day wanderer walks the same path, unaware.

Technical Process:

  1. Layering for Ghostly Effect – The echoes are drawn in desaturated colors with soft edges, making them blend with the environment.
  2. Storytelling Through Positioning – The echoes move in different directions, implying past journeys that overlapped but never met.
  3. Limited Color Palette – The greens and browns of the forest are muted to emphasize the eerie quality of the scene.
  4. Perspective for Depth – The trail narrows as it disappears into the trees, drawing the viewer’s eye toward the unknown.

Connection to My Life:
I have walked where others have fallen. I have continued journeys that were never meant to end. This comic is about that—about the unseen footsteps we follow.

This completes Days 11-15. Let me know if you'd like any refinements before I move on to the next set!
