The best alternative dimensions stories
I have to say humans greatly lack objectivity when it comes to alternate dimensions. The options are rather stupid and dumb of the alternates. Just a revolving door of known historical figures and concepts old idiots and biased people think would have worked out but just by any logical means would not. I'd like to take a post to celebrate the best alternative dimension stories in tv and comics. I find there are no good alternative dimension movies without superheroes as all those movies just hinge on violence or just showing the audience that you can use one house to show all the useful skills you know as a cinematographer. Or some gaudy idea that all realities would even have the same history even close enough to our own. It just seems like white man projecting there and there. Lol. I think you miss the point of the alternate dimension when everyone has to be about murdering their alternative counterpart and no notice is even given to who the alternates are and the alternate dimension is just a prop for the violence between the characters that is the substance of the movie-cough-Parallel. I think that there are no good alternate dimension movies because they are all made by people who don't have any objectivity and use everything to function some self derived comfort of what the unknown is that it simply cannot be; a view geared to violence and their small world mindset. Kudos, if you even are some white conservative person just don't direct a movie about alternate worlds. Alas, I am to say there are too many movies named Parallel or Parallels. There is an english, hindi and a plural movie but they all suck except the Parallels one. To be said comic books and comic book shows and movies do a better job at dimensions. They are written by people who have better objectivity and better open mindness to even register the idea right to even be considered of the title as good works.
Sliders
This forgotten 1995 gem that lasted till 2000 was a show about this dude who accidentally builds a device which goes to alternate worlds. In the testing of it he accidentally brings one dude in a car alongside him to a frozen version of San Francisco. However his device can only work to bring him back only at a certain time there. Instead of waiting out the storm or trying to escape the snow storm; he and the others jump into another dimension but cannot even get home unless they continue to "slide" through different dimensions thus the name Sliders. I am to say that this show when I saw it on a 39.3 aka Comet was reminisce of an " American Doctor Who" but yet it is so much more.
The worlds in this story are very interesting and well made from at least from a standpoint that they try to make these worlds feel real at least to first part of the series aka season 1 and season 2. Admittedly not all the worlds are great. The episode in Dino Veritas is essentially a knock off of Jurassic Park. Various other episodes even in season 2 do this; copy already existing stories at that point in time. That trend to this would ruin the realistic aspect and even the alternate dimension aspect of the show as well you know certainly how things were done were just bad to not be of alternate dimensions but knocks off of previously existing ideas. Aside from these great blunders; this work had the potential if it continued more like season 1 for the rest of the show having worlds that made an attempt to be thoughtful alternative worlds with detail and a compelling original story-it would have been something and would not have been forgotten.
I do say the whole dimension thing in the earlier show just is not perfect as history is always revolving around the same people and no real integrity and honesty to actually admit bias occurs. Yes, maybe you should not make a show based solely on history you don't understand and vaguely do only on American Prejudices. Yea, we are all to expect on ever alternate world always africans become slaves. I think that greatly some great blunders of the "white man's influence" are never explored and always the justification of these events happening the same must be concurrent in each world making for a bland unsavory landscape. Though I will say for a show that was in the mid 90s that it was good enough for its time period and did feature black people more than what you can even expect to this day.
I would say that it surely could have gone in other directions but simply the conflicts behind the scenes of this show screwed things up.
Naomi
I actually read the first book of Naomi. The art is very beautiful and yes the big reveal is that Naomi is from an alternate world in the DC Omniverse (that is what they call it and not me) where she is the 2nd generation child of people who were given powers in some type of world altering event aka it is basically the show Raising Dion. Instead of any type of normalcy of live continuing; the people of powers on this world battled each other and the most powerful Zumbado who was previously a serial killer about to be executed when the advent happened basically won control and ruined the world. But not before forcing Naomi's parents to flee with Naomi. Only Naomi reached the main DC universe I believe and frankly; I am to say that the work is an okay dimensional work because originally it does not offer you the thought that it is one. No it focuses on the details of the area Naomi lives. The world building is present in both worlds which makes it a strong story; Naomi's real world is not a gimmick but a destination she must eventually go back to make the place her parents called home her home. I think the story is interesting because they could have picked any dimension in the DC Omniverse and it would have just been the continuance of those status quos but they picked a new one; a world which originally had no people of power to give an interesting take on the DC Omniverse itself. I personally have read a bunch of the alternatives of DC comics and only some worlds are actually solid and taken as serious. Multiversity seemingly started to take the Elseworlds stories seriously and make them solid but this continues on in Naomi where 1 dimensional worlds are now 3 dimensional. I think I appreciate that advancement.
The tv show follows the same ideals but changes the origins of characters like Zumbado and makes use of the concepts of the bounty hunters introduced in the Flash show. Greatly in fact that the bounty hunters seem to be used to do something that was in the comics; have a type of enemy just appear to be defeated to lead up to further conflict. I think the bounty hunters add depth akin that they come from other worlds. In short the tv show is a bit better than the comics as the bounty hunters have been present in the Flash show and people who have watched that show will know what implications they will have on the story aka means that there will be inter dimensional traveling in the show.
The Flash
Greatly, the Flash brings to life many alternate worlds from the actual DC comics to the tv screen and ultimately adds agency to them. I mean in the sense of agency they are not used as simple gimmicks or even things of the such but drive the story forward. The element of Bounty Hunters has even lead to the complex use of different worlds into the plotlines of the story many times over. The crossover event dealing with the multiverse; Crisis on Infinite earths brought to life many worlds and many characters of the Arrowverse (all the DC shows on CW at the time) and gave agency to them to impact and take part of a larger story. I mean, this event was good in that it showed a multiverse where people were able to connect and come together for a cause and not kill their otherselves to sleep with their alternative selves' wife like the gimmicky movie Parallel would have you invest in is the true nature of alternate dimensions-just a ploy for sick people to murder others or even give grace to the idea that is what would even happen. I think enough this show does not take that deranged essence or shock value to make some type of stupid thriller movie but respects alternate dimensions as a better and tangible thing of connecting people together to accomplish one goal and would not hesitate to call the main characters in Parallel bad people especially when the heroes represent different virtues and values. Truly shows what can be done with the concept instead of cheap thriller nonsense that disrespects the concept and just uses the most cheap means of telling a story and add no depth to its worlds and has no intention of taking the worlds visited even seriously to even give them a name, notion or a cost really to the fact that maybe going to an alternate world would not be so easy to get in and out undetected. That is to be said I like the Flash because alternative versions of characters even meet and yet they don't kill each other and are not encompassed in a deranged mentality or warped sense of humanity that often comes with works that disrespect the medium. It also holds to account how it would not be easy to go to an alternate world and not be detected such as in any of the Parallel and one Parallels movie. The characters respect the alternates and aren't unhinged losers and serial killers who have no respect for life or even the notion they have visited another world. The show also tells how just greatly that one world would be more advanced than other and even how a multi dimensional society exists that even tracks wrong doers who would even try to steal ideas that aren't theirs from another world and use them on their home world.
Motherland; Fort Salem
I like this world as it actually puts effort into its world and is not some dumb shit or arbitrarily violent for no damn reason. Looks into the world of where witches weren't burned to the great capacity they would be said arbitrarily in shows like Sabrina and other shows with witches but instead features a modern world were witches are privy members of society but really much are just kept dogs and are forced to enlist into the military. The society is thus woman led and much enough this is globally. I'd like to think this paints a complex picture of the world itself as not only is America's alternate origins in this world explored but other countries as well. Most enough there are so seeming technological differences as well also the witches are very kinky as well in the consensual way.
Into the Spiderverse
This movie has to be the best alternate dimension movie of them all. Displays the worlds as something to be taken seriously and represents them with depth and detail for the short times they are featured. Mostly enough however just the Miles Morales world, the main Spiderman world and the Spidergwen world though detail is gone into the Spiderman Noir's background a bit. I think of this movie as basically the introduction to other movies by its ending and frankly has an original and intriguing story which brings an alternative great take to Spiderman by making him "be anyone" or in Stan Lee's words in the movie," anyone can wear the mask" who is ready to essentially be a hero and take responsibility for their actions. The whole alternate dimension aspect gives agency to this idea by showing other spiderpeople who are heroes. In short the movie is great because it takes the dimension aspects seriously to the point it is a complex part of the story and its meaning and is not a dumb thriller trying to malign a subject matter for popularity or say "hey look we know how to work a camera and be cheap about things using a single house for the place where people can go to alternate worlds" aka Parallel, Parallel and Parallels. I drag these three movies alot but damn; they weren't that great or even that much watchable. This movie was watchable greatly because it did not make an immoral mess out of the alternate worlds. Anyways the story leads to other installments that will come out in this year and the next which I am excited for because this movie actually gets the alternate dimensions.
Loki
Loki; another great title as it visits worlds that are developed and complex. The whole What Ifs did not make the list because really it just dumbs down better done stories in the comics and make everything revolve around the movies and not introduce necessary characters that even made these stories even work. Also the whole notion that Ultron-Vision could kill Thanos is just stupid and makes him a joke character which he was not in the movies and also makes light of the whole dimensional concept by saying this Ultron Vision could destroy multiple universes and then state that "things like the infinity stones only work in their universe". If so why the fuck does Ultron Vision even work in another dimension? That story is just full of logical defects and just story plotholes and just the stories are bad and bland with no real world building of their worlds but just have them as duplicates of another aka in the comics-not really so especially if you look to the worlds used in " Into the Spiderverse". I find to say that Loki is the better world in that it makes sense of worlds being real and making them feel real and not just alternates of another. It also has sometype of governing multiverse society as well. I just like the fact that there is an acknowledgement of higher powers and whilst the alternate worlds are divided by their time period or special location its a whole lot better than the trash that is "What Ifs". There is just more depth to things there instead of expecting you to remember certain movies out of a movie franchise.
