Rodney K. Smith answers.
.The author introduces the subject matter, the thesis with a real life like situation where a frustrated graduate in an Occupy Wall Street protest held up a sign, " Worthless degree. Will not repay my student loan debt". There it goes to introduce the thesis of the article, that college education is worth the costs even though many people are opposed to it because the less likely returns it has.
.Smith acknowledges the other side to the argument and that people are right to be concern about begin in debt and the quality of the education here but education is an investment that has a higher standing than buying a fancy car. Many people of the current generation fail to see that higher education increases your ability to things you want.
.To further refute the other side to the argument, he states that those without a high school education have a 14.9% of being unemployed. Those with a doctorate degree have a 1.9% chance of being unemployed. He then states than those with higher degrees have more weekly income than those with lesser degrees and lower education.
.To support his thesis Smith states that people of the upcoming generation do not see the benefit in education. Those with lesser education have a 14.9% of being unemployed and make less than those with college education.
.Smith's thesis is "Concerns regarding indebtedness and educational quality are legitimate, but we are losing our appreciation for education as an investment and stewardship". He sets up for this statement by providing a look at the current environment.
.Smith's concluding statement reveals another reason why people should get a college education. His concluding statement wraps up the previous paragraphs that explained his family's poor background and his family's sacrifice to send his father to college resulted in him and his children going to college.
